Welcome to Chasing 70 Degrees! This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your information when you use the Chasing 70 Degrees mobile apps (iOS and Android) and our website at https://chasing70degrees.com (together, the “Service”).

1. Information We Collect

Account information: When you create an account, we collect your name and email address.

Content you create: Trips, stops, favorites, tags, expenses, and other content you add to the Service.

Location information: With your permission, the mobile app uses your device’s location for a single purpose — to center the map on your current location. We do not track your location in the background and we do not store your location history.

Usage and analytics data: We collect information about how you use the Service, such as features used, screens viewed, and interactions, to help us improve the app.

Purchase information: When you subscribe, we receive your subscription and purchase status. Payments are processed by Apple, Google, or our web payment provider; we do not collect or store your full payment card details.

Device and technical data: We may collect device identifiers, app version, operating system, and IP address for analytics, security, and troubleshooting. Our analytics provider uses your IP address to estimate your approximate location (city, region, and country). This is separate from your device’s location and is never more precise than a city.

Cookies (website only): Our website uses cookies for non-personal data collection and analytics.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, operate, and maintain the Service
• Create and authenticate your account
• Sync your trips and content across your devices
• Process and manage your subscription
• Center the map on your location when you request it
• Analyze and improve the Service
• Communicate with you about your account or the Service

3. Service Providers We Share Data With

We use trusted third-party service providers to operate the Service. We share only the data necessary for them to perform their functions. Except where noted below, they are not permitted to use it for their own purposes:

• Supabase — hosts our database and handles account authentication and data storage.
• RevenueCat — manages and validates subscriptions and purchases.
• PostHog — provides product analytics to help us understand how the Service is used and improve it.
• DataFast — provides website analytics and attribution.
• Apple App Store and Google Play — process subscription payments.
• Apple (iOS app) — displays maps, searches for places, and provides directions and weather forecasts. Apple handles this data under its own privacy policy.
• Google Maps Platform (Android app) — displays maps, searches for places, and provides directions. Google’s map software also collects crash reports, diagnostic data, your IP address, and an identifier of its own, which Google uses to maintain and improve its services under its own privacy policy.

We do not sell your personal information.

4. Calendar Access (Mobile App)

If you grant calendar access, the app can add your overnight stops to a calendar you choose as all-day events. This happens on your device with your permission, and you can revoke calendar access at any time in your device settings.

5. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. When you delete your account, we delete your data as described in Deleting Your Account below.

6. Deleting Your Account

You can delete your Chasing 70 Degrees account and the data tied to it at any time, in any of these ways:

• In the iOS or Android app: open Settings (the gear icon), then tap Delete Account under Account.
• On the website: sign in at chasing70degrees.com, open Settings, and choose Delete account.
• By email: write to bill@chasing70degrees.com from the email address you sign in with, and we will delete your account within 30 days.

Deleted right away: your account and email address, and everything you have synced to it — trips, stops, expenses, favorites, tags, spending categories, and settings.

Kept, and for how long:

• Database backups: deleted data can remain in our routine database backups for up to 7 days, until those backups are replaced.
• Usage analytics: kept for up to 1 year, then deleted automatically. Email us and we will delete yours sooner.
• Purchase records: our subscription provider keeps a record of your purchases for as long as we need it for tax and accounting. Apple and Google keep their own records of your purchase under their own policies.
• Data on your device: trips saved on your phone stay on that device until you delete them or uninstall the app.

Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription. To stop being billed, cancel it in your Apple or Google account settings.

If you use the app without an account, your trips are stored only on your device, and uninstalling the app removes them.

7. Data Security

We use industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to safeguard your data.

8. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, and to opt out of certain processing. You can:

• Access and edit your account information in the app
• Revoke location or calendar permissions in your device settings
• Request access to or deletion of your data by emailing bill@chasing70degrees.com

If you are in the EEA, UK, or California, you have additional rights under the GDPR and CCPA, including the rights described above. We do not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

9. Children’s Privacy

The Service is not intended for individuals under the age of 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at bill@chasing70degrees.com and we will delete it.

10. Updates to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here with a new “Last Updated” date and, where appropriate, notify you by email.
